Listen to co-author Natasha Pinheiro as she explains the rationale for the survey and discusses key results.

Access the paper online here: The Evolving Role of the Oncology Nurse in the United States of America.

The survey results highlight:

  • How roles and responsibilities of cancer nurses have evolved since the COVID-19 pandemic and how their workload has increased
  • The importance of self-care initiatives and education to support nurses in their complex, busy and emotionally charged work environment, and to help retain existing nurses and attract new ones

Read the publication to gain insights into this important role.  Download the slide kit and poster for a summary of the results.

Clinical takeaways

  • Oncology nurses' roles in the USA are expanding and evolving. Some changes have brought opportunities to improve patient care and make it more accessible
  • There is a need to decrease the workload and emotional demands that are currently affecting nurses. They demand enhanced education and training
  • Joint efforts from societies and institutions to work collaboratively and make existing education more accessible could improve this workforce’s current challenges
